Meitra United Heart Centre at United Medical Centre, Kasaragod has achieved a remarkable medical milestone by successfully implanting the world’s first Dual-Chamber AVEIR DR Leadless (wireless) Pacemaker, marking the first such procedure in Kasaragod, Kannur, and Coastal Karnataka. This positions the centre among a select few in India and makes it the third centre in Kerala to perform this advanced cardiac implantation. The procedure was led by Dr. Bharathesh U.G, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist, whose clinical excellence, precision, and commitment were central to bringing this breakthrough technology to the region. The device was implanted in an 86-year-old patient, making them India’s second oldest recipient.
The AVEIR DR leadless pacemaker, introduced in India in October 2025, represents a major advancement in cardiac rhythm management. Unlike traditional pacemakers that require wires and a surgical incision on the chest, this capsule-sized device is placed directly inside the heart. Its benefits include reduced risk of infection, no visible scars, faster recovery, and improved overall patient comfort. Hospital representatives emphasized that this achievement reflects Dr. Bharathesh’s vision to make world-class cardiac therapies accessible locally, ensuring that patients in North Kerala and neighbouring regions no longer need to travel long distances for cutting-edge cardiac procedures.
This milestone marks a transformative moment in cardiac care for the region–ushering in safer, minimally invasive, and globally advanced pacing solutions, now available right here at MUHC, United Medical Centre, Kasaragod.
